56. Busting 3 Myths of Leadership (for New Managers)
About this Podcast
A couple of years ago, I heard Melanie Perkins, 34-year old co-founder and CEO of Canva, say that she doesn’t think that the employees work for her but that she works for the employees.
It stuck with me because it highlighted one of the big myths so many of us have about what being a “leader” really means.
Today, I come across these kinds of misconceptions all the time and I see how they can misguide leaders and, especially, new managers.
In this week’s podcast episode, I’m busting the following 3 specific myths that can get in the way of new managers’ leadership growth:
- It’s not just about leadership skills, but also about your leadership system
- It’s not about excellence, but competence
- It’s not about your style, but about their style
- Plus, you’ll hear me talk about one more pitfall I see so many new managers fall into
